Andrea
Costanzo
is a Professor of Orthopaedy and Traumatology at the
Rome University "La Sapienza". He teaches "Road Traumatology" at the Rome Universities "La Sapienza" and "Tor Vergata" and at the Bologna University.
He is President of the Italian Society of Road Traumatology and of the Health Commission of LIDU
(Italian League of Human Rights, member of FIDH - Fédération Internationale des Droits de
l'Homme), Vice President of SOCIMET (Italian Society of Transportation Medicine) and member of AAAM (Association for the Advancement of Automotive Medicine).
He is member of the
Technical Committee for Road Safety of the AIPCR (International Association for
Road Safety), of the National Council of Road Safety of CNEL and of the "Committee of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for Italian Hospitals and Nursing Homes with Italian participation abroad".
He is an "Expert Member" of the Governing Health Council.
Since about twenty years he is co-ordinator of the Medical Sector for Road Safety at the
Automobile Club d'Italia
He cooperated with several car makers on the design of vehicle seats and driver’s
cabin in order to prevent vertebral pathologies and provide technical-ergonomic
solutions with a view to improving driving safety.
He is the author of more than 250 scientific publications on orthopaedy and
traumatology, ergonomy, biomechanics of impacts; many of these studies were the
object of reports at national and international congresses.
He is the director of the specialization course in "Road Traumatology" at SOC.I.TRA.S
(Italian Society of Road Traumatology) in Italy and at the University of Coimbra
(Portugal).
He is a member of EIGIS (European Interest Group in Injury Scaling) and scientific co-ordinator for the AIS
(Abbreviated Injury Scale)
courses held in Italy, organized by ACI under licence from AAAM. The courses are regularly
accredited, as they entail the assignment of "formative credits" ECM recognized by the italian and the portuguese Health
Ministries.
